About ICTERS

December 11th, 2007

Welcome to the Special Interest Group (SIG) for ICT in Education Research Students (ICTERS), sponsored by the Educational Computing Association of WA (ECAWA). That’s a lot of acronyms, but our aim is to create a discussion, collaboaration, publication and social networking “space” for research students interested in ICTs in and for Education.

Any research, particularly at the postgraduate student level, can be an isolating experience. But there’s no reason this should be the case with ICT tools at our disposal! And, of course, the best way to learn about educational technologies is to use them (and share them)!

At present, ICTERS is based in Western Australia and F2F “meets” will be held in the Perth Metro area. But we encourage all research students to join our network, especially the mailing/discussion list.

In order to be a full member of this SIG, research students are invited to join the Educational Computing Association of WA as a student member. This gives members access to highly valuable Professional Learning opportunities in WA, a substantial discount for registration to the annual ECAWA Conference, opportunities to present their research at ECAWA workshops and the Conference, a subscription to Login Journal and Australian Educational Computing and other online resources from ECAWA.

Student membership to ECAWA is currently $20/year (Dec 2007). Check the ECAWA website for more details.

Students outside of WA and those not wanting to join ECAWA are still encouraged to join our mailing/discussion list and participate on this blog site.

Some aims of this SIG:

  • To facilitate discussion and collaboration amongst ICT in education research students, particularly in WA (to begin with!)
  • To facilitate face-to-face meetups for ICTERS
  • To help ICTERS find potential research participants.
  • To support ECAWA and their endeavours.
  • To present current research in the area of Educational Technologies.
  • Create a free edublog to get your own comment avatar (and more!)
